MONTE is an art residency located in Colonia Benítez, Chaco, Argentina. Founded and directed by sound artist Juan Sorrentino, MONTE is dedicated to artists, curators, and researchers whose projects are connected to nature, sound ecology, the study of landscapes, and the environmental impact on territories.
In 2015, MONTE acquired 3 hectares of native forest in Colonia Benítez, known as the botanical capital of Chaco, with the goal of protecting and preserving the land through the cultural actions derived from its artistic residencies.

The residency is situated amidst the Reserva Natural Los Chaguares, one of Argentina’s main birdwatching centers; the Tragadero River, one of the few non-contaminated rivers in the region, with diverse native flora and fauna; and groups of environmentalists engaging in dialogue with the residency. Considering the growing threat from real estate speculation, the exploitation of natural resources, and deforestation that endanger the surrounding environment, MONTE positions itself as a platform for activism, using art as a means to promote environmental preservation and reflective research.

MONTE provides accommodation and an immersive space in nature, encouraging research, creative development, and artistic production. The residency focuses on practical approaches to contemporary art ecologies, offering a variety of residency programs, including specialized ones in Sound Art, Creation, Curatorship, and Research, and Micro-residencies. These programs are open to artists, curators, and researchers from all over the world, from various disciplines.
