La Zona is an interdisciplinary creative space that continuously transforms with each new proposal. As a site-specific residency, we offer an immersive way of working, emphasizing the importance of inhabiting the space—or rather, lingering in the processes.

La Zona is located within the El Marquesado forest reserve, 40 km south of Mar del Plata, Argentina. The proximity to the sea, sand dunes, forest, cliffs, and native grasslands serves as a source of bio-inspiration and dialogue for artistic projects. Our residency programs are open to artists from all disciplines, as well as curators, researchers, and writers. We also welcome cultural, environmental, and scientific practitioners who wish to share, activate, and develop projects or research.
Participants can apply individually or as a group.

Coordinated by Romina Elvira and Paula Teller, the residencies focus on process-based work, embracing detours and discoveries. Each residency functions as a communal practice, where relationships nurture creative processes. Beyond studio sessions, shared activities such as cooking, walking, and collective management of resources become spaces for experimenting with new ways of coexisting.

During the residency, we offer activities led by specialists, including guided explorations of the local environment, ecology, history, and culture. These serve as entry points for discussing contemporary sociopolitical and environmental issues. Additionally, visits to galleries and artist studios create a network of exchange that benefits both residents and the local community.

La Zona launched in November 2022, and since then, more than 45 national and international artists have participated.

In 2023, the project was awarded funding from Gestionar Futuro (Ministry of Culture, Argentina), which supported the Confabulaciones Biopoéticas federal grant. La Zona is a member of Red Quincho and Res Artis.
